Piano music is melodious. Soothing music, or exciting music, depending on the piece and the way it is played.
What do you prefer?
Classical piano? Jazz piano?
It is easier to learn classical piano first. Learn the basics. Learn to harmonize classical style. Learn classical chords, then later, move on to jazz.
Personally, I learnt classical piano. I find it a lot easier than Jazz piano. Jazz requires more improvisation and an excellent feel for the music, for the rhythm.
Many of my pianist friends play jazz piano, after years of training in classical. Once you know the piano, you can easily switch between musical instruments.
I learnt to play the guitar in an hour. A friend showed me the chords I asked for and with those chords, I could play some of my favourite songs. Having played the piano for years, my fingers were nimble enough, so it was easy to switch from strumming the guitar, to plucking individual strings depending on what I felt like playing.
My cousins all play the piano.. and other instruments. All started off with classical piano training, then we just picked up whatever instruments caught our fancy. Some compose their own music for their loved ones to perform at gatherings, some perform at lounges or teach music.
The piano is actually more of a percussion instrument. You hit the keys, they hit the strings within the piano, producing the sound.
