lavender
Lavender flowers are sweetly fragrant. A field of purplish blue lavender flowers is a joy to behold even as it sweetly scents the air with its relaxing aroma.
The uses of lavender flowers are many. Dried lavender is wonderful as pot pourri. Lavender tea is great for migraine and great for reducing stress. Lavender ice cream, lavender white wine and other delicacies flavoured with lavender are rather interesting.
My favourite use for lavender is with lavender essential. In particular, essential oil from Lavandula Angustifolia. It smells simply heavenly. A drop of the essential oil mixed in body lotion, a few drops of the lavender essential oil in the bath tub all make a wonderful bath experience.
Aromatherapists treat lavender essential oil as a first aid kit in a bottle. Its healing power is fantastic.
Aromatherapy as a science started when Dr. RM Gattfossee badly burnt his hand. He dipped his hand into the closest jar of cool, inert liquid, which happened to be lavender oil. His hand healed so quickly, so well. Impressed, he studied essential oils and started aromatherapy.
Lavender oil is indeed amazing in healing cuts, burns and bruises. It heals the skin beautifully. I accidently stuck a wooden skewer deep into my hand and it bled profusely. I whipped out my bottle of lavender oil and poured it onto the wound. Lavender oil numbed the pain. What is really amazing was that the bleeding stopped within an hour. My skin healed rather quickly without any traces of that wound.
Lavender essential oil is antibacterial, so I use that to disinfect wounds. It is probably the only essential oil that is safe to use neat on skin, meaning undiluted. All other essential oils (with the exception of tea tree oil, though some people cannot tolerate that neat either) have to be well diluted before use.
Besides healing the skin, lavender oil soothes the mind. It is wonderful for mild insomnia. A few drops on the pillow before you sleep can help you have a better rest. Lavender oil in the bath tub, or in a foot bath is a very relaxing treat at the end of a long stressful day.
I normally buy lavender essential oil in large bottles as I use that oil for virtually everything and for first aid for the entire family. Even my kids love a drop of lavender oil on their pajamas before they sleep, so they would be surrounded by its beautiful, relaxing scent.
