Kirsten Dunst is Mary Jane Watson in both Spider-man and Spider-man 2. A natural, sweet faced blonde, she would have made an excellent Gwen Stacy. In fact, her Mary Jane, has some of the qualities of Gwen Stacy as well. Kind of like the comic book spiderman's greatest loves all rolled into one.
As the heart of both Spider-man movies was the love story between Peter and Mary Jane, the casting of Mary Jane was crucial to the success of the movies. We have to believe that they belong together. The screen chemistry between Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst is electric. It looks so real. Of course we know they are both excellent actors, and that Kirsten is with Jake Gyllenhaal, but who cares? Her onscreen performance with Tobey Maguire is utterly convincing. So convincing that while filming Spider-man, there were rumours that both of them were dating.
On a side note, Tobey was almost replaced by Jake for the role of Spiderman, because of his bad back. Fortunately, he managed to pull through.
Even at a tender age of 20, Kirsten Dunst is already an accomplished actress.
She started off as a child star. She was that little girl vampire in interview with a vampire, opposite Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise. That she did very convincingly. Her screen kiss with Brad Pitt was her first, at a tender age of around 12
She also acted in Jumanji.
