Chamomile is a great herb for women, children and babies.
Chamomile helps soothe a baby's colic. I remember my baby crying and crying from wind in the stomach. Back then, I did not have any chamomile oil handy. So I filled a scarf with dried chamomile flowers and tied the ends to secure the flowers, then placed the scarf ball of chamomile flowers on baby's stomach. My baby seemed soothed by it, stopped crying and went to sleep.
I bought chamomile essential oil (roman or german chamomile would be fine) and lavender essential oil (Lavandula angustifolia) for my kids. Mixed a drop of each with 10 ml (2 teaspoons) of sweet almond oil or grapeseed oil, or better still, calendula oil and used that as a first aid oil for the bumps kids go through. It is a soothing oil, that helps a kid sleep, massaged onto the back, chest or soles of feet. It also helps numb the pain of bumps and bruises a kid learning to walk would face.
Chamomile tea is wonderful for grown ups too. Problem sleeping, a nice warm cup of freshly brewed chamomile tea helps you relax and might help you sleep well at night. It is a wonderful tea to keep in the office. Stressed out? Take a break with cup of chamomile tea.
Chamomile tea is wonderful for women because of its antispasmodic effect. It helps soothe menstrual cramp. 2 drops Chamomile essential oil of 1 teaspoon of sweet almond oil makes a wonderful massage oil for a woman with menstrual cramps, or PMS irritability.
Chamomile essential oil is one of the gentlest oils around. Suitable for babies too. Mix 5 drops of chamomile oil with 1 tablespoon of sweet almond oil and add it to baby's bath, for a soothing treat for baby. When my baby grew older, he would ask for nice smell in his bath too. Both my kids love essential oil baths.
