Mary Jane in the Spider-man movie is a sweet red headed girl who lives next door. Her parents are always fighting. In Spider-man, she harbours dreams to be an actress. She is ashamed when she sees Peter while in her waitress uniform outside the restaurant where she works. Initially, she was dating the college hunk who treated her badly. When they broke up, Harry made his move and she was dating Harry. After the first time spider-man rescued her, she became infatuated with the wall crawler. They had a passionate upside down kiss that won an MTV award. Later, she realized that it was Peter she loved all along. They kiss. Peter loved her too but did not want to endager her. He did not want his enemies to go after her, so he turned her down, leaving both M.J. and himself broken hearted. That second kiss caused her to suspect that he and Spiderman are the same person.

In Spider-man 2, Mary Jane is already an established actress. She and Peter still have strong feelings for each other, but Peter keeps avoiding her as he is afraid of endagering her. She gets engaged to someone else and the distress that causes Peter, makes him lose his powers. He ditches his Spiderman costume and is ecstatic that he can live a normal life again. He tries to woo her back. She turns him down initially. Then, after being inspired by his Aunt May's talk on heros, he tries to get his powers back.

Mary Jane, on the eve of her wedding arranges to meet Peter and to ask him if he loves her.
Peter says :I don't
Broken hearted Mary Jane asks for a kiss, but is rudely interrupted by Doc Ock who kidnaps her. At the end, she sees him without his mask and they have a good long talk. See the rest of Spider-man 2 movie for the details. The ending is very satisfactory in terms of their little romance.

In the spiderman comics, Mary Jane knew of Peter's dual life from the start. She saw him crawling out of his room as Spiderman when he first started being the web slinger.

Mary Jane was dating Harry, while Peter dated Gwen. Even then, the gregarious Mary Jane flirted a lot with Peter.

After Gwen's death, Mary Jane became closer to Peter. Yet when Peter first proposed, she turned him down. He went on to date Black Cat.

Finally, Peter married Mary Jane. They had their problems and were separated.

Fast forward into the future. Spidergirl comics. By then, Peter Parker retired from being Spiderman and settled down to a normal life with Mary Jane. His daughter, May Parker, inherited his powers and when she grew up, she became Spidergirl.

Mary Jane is the niece of Aunt May's best friend. The two little old ladies were determined to get the two youngsters together. Their first date where Peter introduced M.J. to the gang, Mary Jane got there first and got to mingle with his pals first. She throws herself on Pete and leaves the guys wondering what he's got that she doesn't. The TV shows the lizard at large. Mary Jane tells him to go, after all, that's a great photo opportunity. She's his date so she wants to go with him. She gets behind him on his bike and they head to the scene of crime. The place is cordorned off by the police. M.J. tells him to follow her, she distracts the police while Peter slips in. Looks like she was helping Spidey without letting him know she knew his secret.

Generations have grown up with Mary Jane, a molasses and peanut butter candy first created in 1914. Her distinctive likeness, right down to the shoes that have taken her name, conjures up halcyon memories of a bygone era. A part of the NECCO (New England Confectionery Company) family since 1990, the original Mary Jane lines have seen tremendous growth. Necco, under the Mary Jane name, has become the number one producer of Peanut Butter Kisses in the country. We are pleased to see Dark Horse named as licensing partner for the collectible vinyl figure. Working with Yoe Studio, we have brought Mary Jane to life in 3-D, which as best as we can tell is the very first three-dimensional version of this classic advertising icon. This roto-cast, full-color vinyl figure is 8" tall, and packaged in a full-color window box. Still cute as a button, Mary Jane retains her timeless charm, which is pretty darn impressive for a 92-year-old!
